Joseph Yockey
Professor Yockey teaches Business Associations, Securities Regulation, Art Law, and a seminar on Compliance, Ethics, and Risk Management. His teaching has been recognized at the college and university level. He was named Iowa Law teacher of the year in 2012, and he received the university-wide President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence in 2022.
Professor Yockey writes in the areas of corporate governance, organizational compliance, social enterprise, and higher education. He is the co-editor of the Cambridge Handbook of Social Enterprise Law, and his scholarship appears in leading law journals across the country.
Professor Yockey served as President of the University of Iowa Faculty Senate in 2020-21. He is also the faculty advisor to the Iowa Law Review, as well as the co-advisor and co-founder of the law school’s First-Generation Lawyers (FGL) student organization. His work with FGL was recognized through receipt of the University of Iowa Award for Outstanding First-Generation Student Advocacy in 2022.
Before coming to Iowa, Professor Yockey practiced corporate and securities litigation at Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago. He is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, where he served as articles editor for the University of Illinois Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
After graduating from law school, he clerked for Judge John D. Tinder (retired from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit) in Indianapolis. After clerking and practicing, he spent two years teaching as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Illinois Law.
