Professor June Tai is the Director of the Field Placement Program for the law school. Her teaching and research interests focus on experiential learning and legal practice skills. She teaches and supervises students in the Field Placement Program.  She also teaches contract drafting, and other practice- and skills-focused courses based on her experiences in practice prior to joining Iowa Law. 

Professor Tai is board member and researcher for the Center for the Study of Applied Legal Education (CSALE), a nonprofit organization that conducts empirical research tracking the development of law clinics and field placement programs, and clinicians teaching within these programs. She is also a board member for the Clinical Legal Education Association, and co-chairs CLEA’s Externship Committee. In 2022-23, Professor Tai served on the planning committee for the American Association of Law Schools Conference on Clinical Education. She has served as a pro bono mediator for the Davenport Civil Rights Commission, and provides pro bono patent advice to independent inventors who would not otherwise be able to afford legal services.

Prior to joining the College of Law in 2016, Professor Tai served as in-house counsel for a Fortune 100 company and practiced at two different Bay Area law firms. Her law practice focused on complex civil litigation, with a focus on patent and other intellectual property disputes. She received her J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School and her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
