Field Placement Program Summer 2025
- Summer Legal Placement. Students in legal internships with government and nonprofit organizations may apply for credit through the Summer Legal Placement program. The program awards 3 credits P/NP for a minimum 150 hours over the course of at least 6 weeks. There is tuition and work associated with the class over the course of the semester. Prof. Tai reviews and approves all placements prior to enrollment and enrollment is done by the Registrar (not by the student through MyUI). Students must contact Professor Tai (june-tai@uiowa.edu) for approval of the proposed placement and to register for the class. The deadline to provide all materials to the Field Placement Program Office is April 22. Questions? Feel free to make an appointment with Professor Tai (https://calendly.com/jttai).
- *Note: If the organization has funding, students are allowed to accept compensation as part of the Field Placement Program. Beginning fall 2024, the faculty has approved a pilot program allowing students to receive compensation. Additionally, a student may receive reimbursement for reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred as a result of participation in the field placement and may also accept grants, scholarships, or stipends from the College or sources other than the field placement itself. If the placement site or anyone outside of the law school offers to fund expenses related to your field placement, before accepting these funds, please contact the Field Placement Director.
- Prosecutor Intern Program. Students who have completed at least 3 semesters of law school and are interning with a County Attorney’s Office in Iowa over the summer are eligible for student practice but must attend the Prosecutor Intern Program certification course. The course will be held at Boyd Law Building on May 27 and 28. This is an uncredited, no-fee course; please email law-fpp@uiowa.edu to register.
